Bots are a computerized opponent designed to fight the player in Deathmatch games, often as a sort of training method to practice skills and abilities. True bots have the ability to spawn from Deathmatch spawn points and simulate at least some of the player's behavior in an attempt to provide an adequate challenge. AI intended to not simulate a player would be considered a Monster.

Note that many modifications exist for Quake, such as TM Bot, that are not considered true bots due to their inability to fight the player. These would instead be considered companion AI.
