Revision as of 18:08, 9 September 2024

This page is intended to be a page of cut content from Q2 (unused animations, sounds, textures, maps too). Just like Cut content (Q1).

Unused Weapons

Blaster (World model)

Initial release of Quake II had unfinished world model of Blaster, it has no textures. The weapon is given to player by default, so it left no use in original Single-Player campaign.

World model was updated with patch 3.19, now it is fully textured.

The world model located is here: models/weapons/g_blast/tris.md2

Disintegrator

This weapon has been restored in Quake II Remaster (2023) and included in new campaign Call of the Machine. (P.S. need to check does it have appearance (via secrets) in original Q2 or expansions).

In original Quake II version it has model of BFG10K.

Flare Gun

The world model was fully finished and textured, while view model (from player's eyes) is unfinished with early textures and animations. The model was reused as Grappling Hook in Threewave CTF mod, with reskin done to textures.

The world model located is here: models/weapons/g_flareg/tris.md2

Mines

  • Mines were planned to be added as weapon slot, but got scrapped. In game files there is ammo model for mines with unfinished textures.

The model located is here: models/items/ammo/mines/tris.md2

Unused items

Ammo

Nuke

  • Ammo item for Disintegrator. Finished and fully textured, but left unused since the Disintegrator was scrapped out of Quake II.

The model located is here: models/items/ammo/nuke/tris.md2

Misc

Bone gib

A piece of bone covered in flesh. Probably, it was intended to be placed on maps or when monsters getting gibbed.

Model located here: models/objects/gibs/bone2/tris.md2

Unused animations

Berserker

Berserker had a few extra animations unused in original game:

  • Less aggressive (slow) spike attack.
  • Less aggressive (slow) club attack.
  • A slamming attack animation
  • Two variants of running club attack
  • A jumping slam attack
  • Ducking animation to dodge the projectiles fired by player.
  • Falling animation and raising back.

Brain

Exploding barrel

The Explosive Barrel had extra animation frame of it's enlarging and initial "explode" effect before it actually explodes.

Unused textures

Jorg

Jorg, like all other monsters in Quake II, has bloody texture when he loses 50% of health. But it was not used in original game.

Unused map segments

Cancelled id's Mission Pack

Shortly after Quake II's initial release, id Software team started making their own single-player Mission Pack for Quake II. Sometimes it was referred by team members as "Quake II: Part Two", later on the team moved to make next id project "Trinity" which eventually ended up as Quake III Arena.

Not much stuff was done before the moment of cancellation of development. A sewer map and a bio-engineering map.[1]

Also, the Outer Base level (base1.bsp) was edited after the game's release, extra outdoor area connected to waterway was added. This version of the level was included in Quake II Remaster 2023. It's not yet sure was it made just for development purpose testing new engine's features or it was supposed to be used in this cancelled mission-pack.

Gunner Commander is the enemy introduced in Call of the Machine expansion, released along with Remaster. One of the version that it was supposed to be a player model for Quake III Arena. Or it probably was made for "Quake II: Part Two".

Unreleased or unused maps

Lab Hub

Is a cut single-player level, which served the purpose of being a central hub level from where player could reach another levels (like hangar). It was completely removed from final game, only early E3-version of this map exist in Quake II Remaster (2023).

kmdm3

kmdm3 — is a cut deathmatch level from Quake II. It was shown on ECTS 1997 event in London, as part of showcase of Single-Player of Quake II. There are two versions of this map exist, both released with Quake II Remaster (2023).

First version is ECTS-version with added monsters, items, weapons on it. Second version is pure Deathmatch level, which has no monsters nor items and weapons on it, but has enlarged sections of the map, not included in ECTS-version.
