DemoCam is a modification for Quake made by Harlequin. This modification was made as an expansion to the Chase Camera concept found in the Combo Patch For Registered Quake. This modification is designed to give the player the ability to record Demo files with a few camera modifications.

Impulse 15 can be used to toggle the Weapon model being visible during the recording. It seems to do nothing in practice however.

Impulse 16 will start a chase-cam. Impulse 19 will stop the chase-cam. If the player uses impulse 16 and then uses impulse 20, they will toggle between first person and the chase-cam. This means that they can play Quake in third person.

Note that the user must manually modify their .DEM file to trigger the chase-cam, instead the player will still be in first person for the length of the demo. The trigger that changes this is an "alias disconnect", one of the only Console Commands in Quake that does absolutely nothing.

As recordings cannot persist between levels, and would only instead record a blank screen, the modification automatically turns off the recording at the end of a level. This means third person must be enabled once more at the start of each level.

While Impulse 17 was intended to be used for a Top Dog Chase Cam and Impulse 18 an Intermission Cam, the modification is limited to a camera close to the camera's original view location. This is because traveling a certain distance away from the player results in the world no longer updating. Furthermore, the viewport is entirely dependent on the original player's position, which means that the camera cannot look in a different direction than the original facing. As both need to have updating displays so that the original game can continue, this means it cannot be done through a "false" display as would be done with a guided missile.

While limited to one viewing angle, the author released this modification with the hope that others would expand upon it, taking this modification and utilizing the potential within it.
