The Catacombs is the fourth level of Dimension of the Past. The level starts with a bridge over a pool of shallow water that leads to a closed gate. In order to open it, the player will have to find and activate the two columns decorated with runes, which are placed in balconies overseeing the starting point. Designed in Medieval style, the level will later feature a huge lift in the shape of a room and a bloody corridor with a moving crusher as notable features. This level also introduces the Shambler and the Rocket Launcher to players coming from E5M3: The Dark Days.

Secrets

  • #1) After jumping into the water, take the right path. There is an elevator at the end. As soon as the elevator goes up, leave it immediately. Underneath is a secret with a large box of Nails.
  • #2) After taking the elevator upwards, the right path leads to a hole in the floor with deadly spikes on the ground. Jump over it to reach the Red Armor.
  • #3) After jumping into the water, take the left path. There is an elevator at the end. As soon as the elevator goes up, leave it immediately. Underneath is a underwater tunnel that leads to a 100 Health.
  • #4) After taking the elevator upwards, follow the corridor. Two gates open in the room after the corner. Behind them, in the dark, is a secret area with two small boxes of Nails.
  • #5) After opening the silver key door, take the left path. The last part of the way, where the Yellow Armor is located, counts as a secret.
  • #6) The right path leads to a small column in the wall that is decorated with runes. Shoot the button on the wall behind it and walk back to the curve. Another switch has become visible directly under the ceiling, above the torch. Shoot it and instead of the column the passage is open and leads to the Quad Damage.
  • #7) The bloody corridor with the crusher goes around in a circle. To the left of the trap door is a larger space in which there is no danger. You can get there by letting the crusher pass at the stairs or following the corridor fast enough, or later dropping back through the trapdoor. In the secret area you will find a Yellow Armor and two 25 Health.

Glitches

One of the paths that lead to the columns decorated with runes can be bypassed by rocket or grenade jumping: As soon as the player reaches one of the two columns decorated with runes that have to be activated in order to open the main gate, they can jump to the top of the starting point Arch and then, from there, it is possible to rocket jump or grenade jump directly to the other column, thus bypassing an entire section of the level.
