—Mission briefing

The Eastern Warehouse is the first level of Unit 2 of Ground Zero. The level begins the moment you leave the mine elevator and make the first step in the Strogg base. Unfortunately, you can't return to the mines, because the elevator is destroyed by an earthquake unleashed by the destruction of the Tectonic Stabilizer in the previous unit.

Your aim in this level is quite simple - proceed through the base to the control room, where you will acquire the Red key card, which is necessary to gain access to Waterfront Storage Facility.

This level introduces two new enemies: the Turret and the Daedalus, both of which will continue to appear frequently in the Ground Zero campaign.

*These statistics refer to the 2023 remaster. One Machine Gun Guard was added in the Control Center area on Hard/Nightmare difficulty that was not present in the original game.

Secrets:

  • #1) Once you find the electric rail track, head left along the rail (take care not to fall onto the track or you'll be instantly killed) and through the hole in the wall to find a power cube protected by red lasers (you will encounter enemies in this area). Continue upward in this direction to eventually find a computer console that disables the lasers protecting the power cube; you can then remove the power cube, thereby disabling the electric rail track. It is now safe to jump down onto the track and find a hole in its floor, leading to an Invulnerability.
  • #2) There is a room which gradually floods when you enter, with the water eventually reaching an exposed electric terminal which electrifies the water. Your objective here is to jump across using the boxes to find a button which seals the electric terminal, making the water safe again. Once you've done so, look under the collapsed bridge in the flooded room to get an Adrenaline.
  • #3) After the red key card is obtained, use the nearby elevator to return up. In the room at the top of the elevator, you can jump on the crates to reach a ledge on the other side and get the Megahealth.
  • #4) Nearby the exit door of this level, there is a rectangular pool of water. Jump in and find a passage underneath the large slope, leading to a Body Armor.

Notes

  • There are two power cubes you can collect in this level - one can be obtained after deactivating the red lasers, and then removing the power cube will disable the electric track allowing access to Secret #1. The second can be obtained from the room with the unstable electrical systems mentioned in Secret #2, if you quickly grab it before the room floods with electrified water. You can use either power cube in a terminal found in the same room where you deactivated the red lasers, which allows you to use a crane to smuggle yourself into the large warehouse area, providing an alternative route through the level. Neither power cube is necessary to complete the level, though.
