Eloinz is an editor for Quake made in 1996. Instead of the usual focus of designing brushes, Eloinz is designed to instead make blocks, essentially being a subtractive editor that carves away from the world as opposed to the additive editor. This means that Eloinz had the benefit of being more easy to use in comparison to other editors such as WorldCraft for basic construction, but suffered from the problem of being a lot harder to work with in regards to detailed environments.
Textures were based on styles, which allowed players the ability to choose a particular look that would set the floor, ceiling, lighting, and general appearance. Similar to subtractive, it allowed for a much quicker start for novices, but would become a hindrance to more advanced developers that would like to choose their own textures.
By using F6, the player can set macros that replicate a series of actions, thereby cutting down the work necessary for repetitive tasks.
Note that Eloinz was designed to be oriented around various user levels. Novice was completed first, released as a relatively buggy beta release (0.21) on October 23, 1996. It is unknown if the other levels were ever completed, though Novice continued to get updates into November of 1996.
0.4, released on November 10, 1996 brought a new save format that made previously saved files incompatible without converting them out. The filenames were changed from EXMP1-3 to EX1-4. It appears that EX1, DeathMatch Exemple, fails to work properly in this version due to being unable to find the correct textures. All levels included in 0.21 were slightly altered in some form, whilst a new level was added known as No Name Level.
