Fog of Death

 

The Fog of Death is a shrouded hazard of some sort in Quake III Arena. It appears as orange/red haze or misty clouds of which forms the bottom of the entire level. Falling onto the blurred pit and kills the player or gladiator instantly, though its death message suggests that the character is not dead but perpetually floating into the depths of hell.

Unlike the Fog, there is no Battle Suit in this Arena Eternal, it cannot be verified whether or not one would offer protection from the Death Fog. The player character can jump pass the fog using the bouncy pad on them during the Tier 3 level Brimstone Abbey whilst walking on the bridge next to the Death Fog for the Teleporter during Tier 2 level Proving Grounds before battling Hunter. Furthermore, the Fog of Death is positioned well below the rest of the level, including the exit, so it is possible to restart the arena after falling into the Fog of Death in any case, there is a penalty for losing your frag ratio is 1.

Oddly, dropping grenades into the Fog of Death produces the same sound effect as explosive sound in there.
