The Grid Control is the core of the lethal Strogg security system. The laser traps and smaller Strogg guards are but a prelude to the mighty guardian who watches over the maintenance hatch to the main computer (the first boss fight in the game).
The destruction of this computer would severely cripple the Strogg security systems around the capital city of Cerberon, and give access to the Mine complex.
Quick Level Completion
- Make your way forward, avoiding the laser beams.
- Ride one of the two elevators up to the outdoor area.
- Destroy the two Tanks that roam in the area.
- Four sections of the central area's wall will collapse. Kill the Berserkers that will come out.
- Defeat the Super Tank.
- Find an opening in the center of the new area and climb down the ladder.
- Follow the narrow path to an elevator and ride it up.
- Press the Button to reveal the computer core. Beware of the roaming laser beams.
- Shoot the Grid Control Computer with any weapon to destroy it.
- Go through the door in the back of the room.
- Activate the elevator to proceed to Unit 4.

Secrets
PSX version only:
- #1 and #2) In the large arena containing the two Tanks, the walls on the left and the right side both contain a wall section of a slightly different colour to the rest of the wall. They can be opened by shooting them; one side contains health, the other side contains grenades and a Jacket Armor.
Differences in the PSX version
- Different enemy count and new secrets (see above). Notably, a number of Guards are encountered in the corridors near the beginning, and more after the fight against the Super Tank, but there are no Berserkers accompany the Super Tank.
- This is the first opportunity to obtain a Grenade Launcher, whereas the PC player could have already found one in several of the other levels of the Jail unit.
- A Rocket Launcher can be obtained at the end of the level, on a ledge just above the exit. Look behind the pillar to find a ladder allowing you to reach it. The PC player cannot find a Rocket Launcher until the next level.
- The next level is Power Plant; the PSX version does not include the Mine and Factory units.
Bugs
- In the PSX version, the difficulty settings are inconsistent; Easy has the strongest enemy forces, followed by Hard, with Medium being the easiest. This is one of five levels in the PSX campaign with this issue. While it is probably an error, it could be argued that the larger number of Guards on Easy provides the player with more ammunition for the boss fight.
