MAP01Q or DOOM2's MAP01 for Quake is a Singleplayer and Multiplayer level. It is inspired by MAP01: Entryway for Doom II. There is no in-game name for this level, the name comes from documentation included with the file.
This level is one of the earliest levels made for Quake, made with an unrelated editor that was hacked to output Quake files.
There is a slight update to this map, MAP01RQ, that was released on August 9, 1996. While the original version looked for E1M1.WAD, the newer version looked for BASE.WAD. The spawn location was changed to be facing the same location as the original Doom II level; the old spawn was included as a fourth DM spawn location.
Walkthrough
Turn left, then head to your left to collect the Super Nailgun, Double-Barrelled Shotgun, and Rocket Launcher. Follow the corridor straight ahead and to your right while turning right to collect the Ring of Shadows. Return to the starting position, then drop into a room with two pillars and a staircase leading to a corridor straight ahead. Collect the Quad Damage by the left pillar and the Shells by the right pillar, then head up the staircase. Collect the Nailgun at the bend of the corridor, then turn right and proceed forward to an intersection. Turn left to reach a computer room, continuing forward to collect the Double-Barrelled Shotgun. Head to the upper right corner of the room to reach an alcove with a 25 Health and Yellow Armor, then return to the intersection. Turn left to reach another intersection, ignore the route to your right and instead continue forward to collect the Shells. Enter the alcove straight ahead to collect the Rockets and Rocket Launcher. Head down the corridor you previously ignored to enter a large room with a window, use the raised surface to your left to jump to the Super Nailgun platform straight ahead. Turn left and pass the window before turning left into an alcove, then collect the two 25 Health. Return to the previous room, then cross it to reach another doorway leading to a courtyard. Turn right, then head to the corner to reach the Grenade Launcher.
