Power cubes are a key item found in Quake II, which can be placed into terminals to power up machinery. The player will sometimes need to retrieve the cube from one terminal and take it to another. They are first found in the Supply Station; the player has orders to collect four power cubes and then proceed to the Warehouse, using them to power up systems in order to progress. They are necessary to continue through the level.
They appear again in The Reckoning and Ground Zero, usually being necessary to complete the level, but not always. For example, there is a optional secret area in the Eastern Warehouse in Ground Zero which can be accessed by removing a power cube from a terminal to disable an electric track, allowing the player to cross it safely and find the secret.
