Scar-funkle was a marine in the Terran Coalition of Man, who was involved in the first wave of the invasion of Stroggos. He deployed in the same battle group as Stepchild, and he can be heard responding to a status check along with the other marines.
Scar-funkle's drop pod was headed for the Logistics Complex when it was shot down by the railgun of a Gladiator, and crashed into the wall. Stepchild had received orders to rendezvous with the incoming marine, but with Scar-funkle now dead, Stepchild carried out his orders himself - namely to steal a Data CD and reprogram it, then upload it through the Strogg's own communication systems to broadcast tampered-with information to the enemy fighter fleet, hindering their effectiveness.
In the 2023 remaster, the subtitles list Scar-funkle's name as "Garfunkel" when he responds to the status check, presumably an error (Wonimal is also erronously subtitled as "Geronimo"). It is also curious that Scar-funkle's drop pod took so much longer to land than Stepchild's did; Stepchild completed the whole of Unit 1 before witnessing Scar-funkle's ill-fated landing.
