The Security Complex is the central hub of the Strogg Jail Unit. It contains passageways to other parts of the Unit, several large control rooms, and a locked pyramid that conceals the way to the core of the security network.

Players will need to revisit the Complex several times; first to collect the Red Key, with which they must return to the Detention Center to deactivate the security lasers. After that, they may return to the Security Complex to search for the Pyramid Key and the Security Pass necessary to access the system core. These two key items are found in the Guard House and Torture Chambers respectively, both of which are accessed from the Security Complex. These two levels can be accessed in whichever order the player prefers.

This level marks the first appearance of the Icarus, and it is the first opportunity to acquire the Grenade Launcher.

Secrets

  • Pc icon #1) In the first area, clear the enemies, and head to the door on the left; when you get to the room with the yellow lasers blocking your progress, look at the wall to the right of it, with the two grenade pickups and a medikit; shoot the portion of wall behind the grenades to lower it and reveal a new weapon; the Grenade Launcher.

PSX version:

  • PS1 icon #1) In the first area, clear the enemies, and head to the door on the left; when you get to the room with the yellow lasers blocking your progress, look at the wall to the right of it; one section looks slightly different. Shoot it to reveal a Chain Gun.

Differences in the PSX version

  • Different enemy count and secret (see above).
  • The player does not need to return to the Detention Center from here to deactivate the security lasers.
  • Willits' drop pod is not present, nor is the Power Shield and Chain Gun that would be found nearby.
  • No Quad Damage is found in the room before the security pyramid.
  • The player will not find a Grenade Launcher until Grid Control.
  • The upper section is not connected to the Torture Chambers. Instead, it is only accessible via the lift near the Guard House entrance, and only after the player has completed the Torture Chambers and the Guard House. It leads to a chamber containing a Bandolier. This is the only Bandolier in the PSX campaign (and an Ammo Pack won't be found until Defense Command).
  • While the PC player requires the Pyramid Key to open the security pyramid and then the Security Pass to open the door inside leading to Grid Control, the PSX player instead collects two Pyramid Keys to open the pyramid.
  • There is no elevator inside the security pyramid, so the player cannot return once they descend.
  • In both the PC and PSX versions, the player visits the Torture Chambers and Guard House from this level, in whichever order they prefer. In the PSX version, there is a distinct reason to choose the Torture Chambers first, because it is the first opportunity to acquire a Hyperblaster and Combat Armor, whereas the Guard House does not contain any new weapons or power-ups in the PSX version.

Bugs

  • In the PSX version, this level suffers from missing kills on all difficulty settings.
