“ | All over Stroggos are pools of toxic waste from their refineries. This slime eats away at your flesh unless protected by an enviro-suit. | ” |
—The Quake II Manual |
Slime (also known as Acid) is a hazard found in Quake II, essentially pools of toxic or corrosive liquids. Contacting it will cause continuous damage to the player; armor and a Power Shield will absorb some of the damage. The damage taken is greater if the player is swimming in deep slime than if merely standing in shallow slime. The Enviro-Suit power-up allows the player to swim through Slime unharmed, for so long as its effects last, and the Invulnerability power-up protects the player too. Occasionally, secret items are concealed under the slime, or in areas that can be reached by travelling through slime. In these cases, an Enviro-Suit can be used to retrieve them safely.
Slime harms the Strogg too, should they come into contact with it.
