These provide an additional boost to your health.

—The Quake II Manual

In Quake II, the Stimpack is an item that grants a small boost to the player's health, increasing it by 2. Unlike medikits, Stimpacks can increase a player's current health over the normal maximum of 100 (this maximum value can itself be increased by collecting Adrenaline).

In the original game, when a player exits the current level, if their health is higher than the usual maximum (i.e. 100 plus however many Adrenalines they have used) then it will be reset down to the usual maximum. In the 2023 remaster, however, this does not happen. Therefore, a player can retain the health boost from Stimpacks for much longer in the single-player campaign - if a player collects enough Stimpacks and doesn't take much damage, they can amass a health value of perhaps 3-500 over the course of a single-player campaign. However, if a player collects a Megahealth, then their health will gradually tick down to the normal maximum (i.e. 100 plus however many Adrenalines they have used).
