Strogg Gateway is the Hub map of the new Call of the Machine campaign for the 2023 Quake II Remaster. It is here that the Marine codenamed "The Machine" must deploy the other six Marines to their respective Units to retrieve the Data Discs, so that the data on them can be uplinked to the vessel. This, hopefully, will allow The Machine to open the portal leading to the domain of the mysterious Strogg-Maker.
Quick Level Completion[]
- Head forward into the central chamber, and proceed through either the left or right door.
- Choose a button and press it to play that Unit.
- Once that Unit is complete, choose another button, and so on, until all six Units are completed.
- Return to the central chamber and pass through the Slipgate.
Walkthrough[]
Head forward into the central chamber with the spinning ring. This ring is a Slipgate - essentially a teleporter - but it is not yet activated. For now, proceed through either the left door or the right door; you'll need to go both ways but it's your choice which order. Each door leads to another chamber containing three buttons. Each of the buttons deploys a Marine to their respective Units, and then the player will take control of that Marine until the Unit is complete. Broadly speaking, the objective of each Unit is to find and retrieve a Data CD, and transmit its data back to the ship. After the Unit is complete, you will resume control of The Machine and may then choose the next Unit.
You can play through the six Units in any order you wish. Each Unit will begin with the marine equipped with no more than a Blaster and compass; you can't save ammunition or power-ups from one Unit to another. After all six Units are completed, the Slipgate in the central chamber will be activated, and The Machine may pass through to reach the Temple of the Creator.
