The Upper Mines is the sector of the Strogg mines that is close to the surface. As such, it houses the primary ventilation systems. They have been shut down due to the recent human incursions and now toxic gases have begun to accumulate in certain sports, triggering a lockdown of all exits to the lower levels. Therefore, the ventilation system must be reactivated.

The area features heavy industrial machinery, ore grinders, fire vents and lava pools.

Secrets

• #1) When you get to the outside area with the bridge with the 2 Light Guards on either side of a raised platform guarding it, take the path to your right before crossing the bridge. Take out the Gunners here and, at the corner, look at the right wall; this will lower if you shoot it, revealing a secret with a Large Health and 2 Boxes of Bullets.
• #2) Cross the aforementioned bridge into the computer console room, where the objective of the map is located. To the left of the button you have to press to turn on the Filtration System, you will see a red computer server that is sparking. Shoot this to blow it up, revealing a Quad Damage.
