Vacuum is space devoid of matter. It is a hazard first appearing in the secret level Comm Satellite of Quake II that sucks you into space, causing instant death. The Invulnerability artifact, while rendering a player immune to almost all harm, does not protect against this hazard. It also appears in the Orbital Defense and Docking Station levels in Quake II 64.
There are two large hangar doors in the Comm Satellite which are initially open, with several tempting pickups near the threshold to open space. The player must use a nearby computer to close the bay doors before attempting to collect the goodies, otherwise they'll be sucked out into space to their death. There is also a secret item on the same level which can be collected by carefully jumping on a series of beams, with deadly vacuum below.
