Untold centuries ago the Vadrigar, the mysterious Arena Masters, constructed the Arena Eternal for their own infernal amusement. Virtually nothing is known of these beings except that they savor the carnage and clamor of battle. As such, they have stocked the arena with the greatest warriors of all time. And you have just joined their ranks.

As a gladiator in the Arena Eternal, you must not only survive, but also win each and every battle against ever more powerful opponents. Don't worry overly much about getting "fragged." The Vadrigar won't be cheated of their favorite sport by a little thing like death. Those who fall are instantly restored to life and immediately thrust back into the battle, perhaps a little wiser for their misfortunes.

When the dust, blood, and gibs settle, all warriors will have earned the right to battle again, providing further entertainment for the Vadrigar. But only the warrior who has fragged the most foes will be lauded as the winner. The victorious gladiator advances to a more challenging array of arenas, until, at last, he or she faces Xaero, Lord of the Final Arena.

after the release of quake champions, it became known according to his lore vadrigars are class of elder gods who ruled domains in dreamlands, they appear in the event that the dreamer being in contact with material god or another vadrigar is mostly humans after contact, they fall into madness, they also see nightmares then they end up to dreamlands where this dimension itself is consumed them from wthin or they become as vadrigar or created them, volkerh,goroth, ithagnal and chtalha are dreamers who became elder gods of dreamlands,only in domains of vadrigars creatures can respawn,vadrigars can't died after defeated they respawn after death and they became weaken and leave tey domains in which they rules to seek new domain or gain strength to recapture his own former domain. • When called the name of iD Software developers in chat, bots will warn player to "not awake the Arena Masters".
• In console port of Quake 3 called Quake III Revolution, player will be pitted against the one Vadrigar as the final boss to gain their freedom. Until that point in the lore, Vadrigar was supposed to be a race of elite entities above all.
• anonncer from quake champions and quake 3 are vadrigar from quake III revolution.
• before the battle in quake III revolution vadrigar said "i'm the arena master the supreme being" maybe this hints that before the release of quake champions even then developers is thought that they were kinda like a gods than a just default race?.
• unnamed darkness figured in quake champions's game files but not figured in leaks of the game,then others is figured currently not added vadrigars or just gods in to the game.
• all vadrigars are the elder gods but not all elders gods or especially outer gods are vadrigars for exemple azatoth is not one of them, but in quake universe quake universe shub-niggurath is one of them.
